Launched in 2018, Research is the first journal in the Science Partner Journal (SPJ) program. Research is published by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in association with Science and Technology Review Publishing House, the publishing house under the leadership of China Association for Science and Technology (CAST). As with all participants in the Science Partner Journal (SPJ) program, Research is editorially independent from the Science family of journals and CAST is responsible for all content published in the journal. Research content is Open Access, published under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY) on a continuous basis. This means that content is freely available to all readers upon publication and content is published as soon as production is complete. AAAS is a member of the following organizations: ALPSP, DOAJ, OASPA, ORCID, SSP, and STM.

Research publishes fundamental research in the life and physical sciences as well as important findings or issues in engineering and applied science. The journal publishes original research articles, reviews, perspectives, and editorials.
